Nokia’s Booklet 3G may be small, but don’t be fooled into thinking it’s a netbook.

At least, while it shares the Intel Atom processor with most netbook computers, the main difference between this and those is the price. The Booklet clocks in considerably more expensive than most other computers of its size, but there are good reasons to pay so much.

Firstly, the construction: it’s made from a heavy, sturdy metal, making it more like the Apple Macbook range than a plasticky netbook.

It also has a long battery life – obviously it’ll vary depending on whether you’re watching videos on it or just doing some typing, but we were able to get some quite impressive times out of it.

It uses the Starter edition of Windows 7, which is a little cut-down from the more expensive versions but most users won’t notice the difference.

And there are some clever extras. In addition to the webcam built into the top of the screen, there’s a 3G modem built-in so you can plug in a mobile phone Sim card and connect directly to the internet – though those data charges mount up, so check with your network first.

One gripe is that there’s no DVD drive – while we wouldn’t expect to find one on a computer this thin, many of the others we’ve seen include an external drive in the box. It’s not a big deal, but it is annoying.
