Connect to your wireless network with Ubuntu
Q I installed a wireless device on Ubuntu using the guide in Computeractive. It installed perfectly and instantly picked my wireless network. When I tried to connect I was prompted to enter a password.
I expected this and entered the password I use for Windows but as soon as I
pressed Enter the message appeared again. This time there was text in the
password box but it was not what I had entered. I tried again but have still not
been able to connect.

A We have found that Linux does not always identify the kind of password used on a wireless network. If you are not sure whether it uses WPA or Wep check on the router settings page rather than experimenting with the options in Linux.
It is also possible that the Linux drivers for the device do not support WPA, even though their Windows counterparts can. Reducing the network security to Wep may allow you to connect to the wireless network with Linux.
