Not so long ago even the best printers were good for just one thing: printing. Over the past few years more and more ‘multifunction’ devices have appeared with a built-in scanner that allows you to copy documents, but even these are not as convenient as they should be.

Most need to be tied to a PC using a USB cable, and in many cases you will need to turn the computer on simply to scan a document or share it with friends or colleagues.

Lexmark was one of the first companies to introduce wireless multifunction printers that could be placed anywhere in your home, sending scans and receiving prints wirelessly to and from any computer. With its newest printers, though, it has gone further – now you can scan, print and share information from the internet with no PC required.

The new Lexmark Interact S605 connects to the internet wirelessly so it can send documents directly via email, or you can store them to a USB memory key or memory card just as easily. Photos and documents can be sent wirelessly from any computer, or be transferred from a camera where you can view them on the large colour screen before printing.

It’s easy on your pocket and the environment, too, with economical individual Vizix ink tanks and an automatic double-sided printing system that can halve your paper use with no extra effort required.

Best of all the Smart Solutions system allows you to customise the printer with free tools from the Lexmark website, so you can print photos, read or print calendar information or even check the latest news headlines – all from the printer, with no need to switch on the PC.
