Computers with different operating systems can communicate
Q I use a Dell desktop with 512MB of memory and Windows XP.
I also have a Toshiba notebook that is running Windows 98. I would like to get a
wireless ADSL router and a PC card Wifi adapter for the notebook. As the desktop
uses Windows XP and the notebook uses Windows 98, will they work together?
A Waller
A You won’t have any problems getting the two computers to talk the same language. Networking systems are designed to allow computers to talk, whether using Windows XP or 98, Linux or a Mac operating system.
Windows 98 is slightly harder to set up for networking than Windows XP, but if you have the setup disks for the wireless network card, there should be no problem. Once set up, the router will then recognise automatically the two computers when they try to connect.
