Review: Dyson Air Multiplier

A fan, but not a fan

The air is actually coming from the small gap between two sections of the ring

The Dyson Air Multiplier is a fan, but it’s not a fan.

As you can see, where the blades would be on a standard desk fan, is just a hole.
I can put my hand through it or even put my head through it with the fan running all the while, and without cutting bits of me to shreds.

The air is actually coming from the small gap between two sections of the ring. It’s drawn in from vents on the heavier main section and pushed up and out through the ring section.

Dyson says that the design also draws in air from around the ring as well. The point of it, says Dyson, is that removing the blades means less of what it calls ‘buffeting’ which is the effect you feel of all the turbulent air flowing over your skin.

Undoubtedly the air produced by the Air Multiplier comes out more smoothly, but whether that justifies the product’s eye-watering price is up to you.
