Q I use a word processing program a lot but only use a fraction of its capabilities. I seem to remember reading somewhere that there is a simpler version of Openoffice Writer. I find this takes much longer to load than Word.

Grant Bell

A There are alternatives to Word and Openoffice that offer better performance. A good starting point is Abiword.

There is also a variant of Open Office called Go-oo Office.
