A sidebar for XP

You don't need Windows Vista to enjoy sidebar goodness

If you want a sidebar but don’t have Windows Vista, try downloading the Google Toolbar from the Google Download Page. Click on http://pack.google.com.

When downloaded the Google Desktop appears by default on the taskbar. To use it as a sidebar instead, left-click on the black arrow beside this and then click on Sidebar. Google Desktop will then appear in a sidebar, on the right-hand side of the Desktop. There are lots of Gadgets that can be added to incorporate extra information into this sidebar. They include calculators, clocks and newsfeeds.

This method also has the advantage of adding the Google Desktop Search to the computer, which is much faster at finding documents and emails than the standard Windows XP search.
