Why is the Recycle Bin emptying itself?

Change the options for the Recycle Bin

q-a-logo

Q My Recycle Bin seems to have somehow got set to clear itself out of its own volition. I’m running XP with Service Pack 3. I use Window Washer and have carefully checked that running that doesn’t remove items from the Recycle Bin. Where do I get at the Recycle Bin options?

John Cutting, Computeractive Forum

A Is everything disappearing from it, or just some items? There is a size limit to the Recycle Bin. Newly deleted items, particularly larger ones, may push out older ones. I found this even with items deleted on the same day because of their size. Also, I’ve found that some files/folders wouldn’t go to the Recycle Bin at all because they are too big.

To change the options, right-click on the Recycle Bin on the Desktop and then left-click on properties. Adjust the slider so that more or less space is used for the Recycle Bin.

Self-emptying re-cycle bin

I have exactly the same problem as John Cutting. Iit empties itself completely. I have increased the amount of space available using 'Properties' but it made no difference. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
