Explore the Openoffice Status bar

Openoffice's status bar has a few clever tricks up its sleeve

The Status bar at the bottom of Openoffice Writer has plenty of useful information as well as the
options for changing the view on the right-hand side. If you can’t see it, click on the View menu and then on Status bar.

The first box shows the current page and the number of pages in the document. To the right is the page template, right-click on this to see some alternatives including envelope. Next to this is the current language being used by the spell checker.

Right-clicking on this will give you the option to change the current language either for the whole document or a single paragraph. Alternatively background spell checking can be turned off altogether. The Insrt key refers to whether typing inserts new characters or overwrites what’s already there. It can be changed with a left-click or by pressing the Ins key.

The Std key describes how text is selected and if there is a star in the next box there are changes in the document that haven’t been saved.
