Favorit spyware allows pop-up to bypass ad blocker
Q When I have been surfing the internet recently a window has appeared with an ‘adserving.favorit’ address at the top. I am now receiving advertising pop-ups with the word ‘favorit’ at the top. How can I prevent these pop-ups appearing? My preferred browser is Firefox and I have it set to Block pop-up windows.
Brian Pedder
A The pop-ups are managing to bypass your Firefox setting because you have some spyware installed on your PC called Favorit. Don’t be alarmed, this software only displays adverts and won’t try anything malicious.
It can easily be removed using the Windows Control Panel. Left-click the Start Menu and then click on Control Panel. Then, either click Add or Remove programs (Windows XP) or Programs and Features (Windows Vista). Scroll down the list and look for the word Favorit. Click on the Favorit entry in the list of applications, then click Remove.
Alternatively, you could use some anti-spyware software to remove it, such as Lavasoft Ad Aware or Spybot Search and Destroy.
