XPS file confusion

How to save in the XPS format

Q I read your article on XPS files. But although I have a new computer running Vista, and XPS is installed, it does not work. I can’t save anything in XPS as that format is not showing anywhere.

I tried saving a document in Notepad and Word but it doesn’t give me the option to save a file in XPS. Is it because I have Office 2003 and perhaps it’s too old a version? But why then does it not show in Notepad?

A The method of saving files in the XPS format may seem odd as they are created using the Print option in the File menu, rather than Save. Click on the File menu and then Print. The Print dialogue box may show a list of icons representing all the printers installed on the PC, or just a dropdown menu. Select Microsoft XPS Document Writer and then click on Print. Select a location to save the file and give it a name. Click on Save to create the XPS document.
