Use different icons for various folders on your desktop
Q I would like to use different icons for various folders on
my computer other than the normal Windows icon.
D Hills
A It is quite simple to give folders a new icon and this is a good way to mark out special folders. Left-click on My Computer and then navigate to the folder containing those whose icons you want to change. Right-click on the first folder and then left-click on Properties. Left-click on the Customize tab.
There are two pictures that can be changed. The first, and biggest, is for when the folder is shown in Thumbnail mode. Left-click on the Choose Picture button and find the picture you would like to use. Click on Open and the preview will be updated with the new image.
The second option changes the icon for all the other views. Left-click on the Change Icon button in the bottom section of the window. This will show all the default icons that are supplied with Windows. Use the scroll bar at the bottom of the window to look through the icons on offer.
When you find one that you like, left-click on it once and then on OK. If you have got any alternative icons, click on the Browse button, find the icon file and click on Open. The new icons can the be seen in the window. Click on OK to save the changes. Finally click on OK in the Folder Properties window to save the changes.
