The Windows Desktop used to be where we spent our time working, playing and trying to stay organised.
When affordable broadband arrived, it was suddenly possible to stay online all day without running up enormous bills. This transformed the notion of the desktop and where it ‘lived’.
Portals like Yahoo and MSN tried to cash in by offering their own news and other services, but these weren’t always satisfactory.
Now it’s possible to cherry-pick the services, news feeds, search engines and organisational widgets that you want and aggregate them onto a single page. There are many options, but we’re going to look at one of the best – Netvibes.
Here's how to use Netvibes to create your own online portal page
