Edit websites with Microsoft Expression Web

Use Microsoft Expression Web to make and save changes to a hosted website

q-a-logo

Q I use the web host 34sp.com for my website that I have created using Microsoft Expression Web. All has been fine until recently when I wanted to make some changes to the website.

I tried to upload the changes to the website but Expression Web told me that it was unable to log in. I double-checked the account details and they are correct.

I also tried accessing the website using an alternative program, Filezilla, but with no more success. Am I stuck with my website as it is?

A The documents, images and videos that make up a website are transferred to the web host using a technology called File Transfer Protocol (FTP).

The username and password supplied for accessing FTP should be kept as safe as possible because it would give almost complete control over your website if it fell into the wrong hands.

Some web hosts, 34sp.com included, have gone a step further and have disabled FTP so you have to turn it on from your account pages. This adds another password to the process, making it safer.

Go to 34sp.com and click on Login at the top right of the page. Enter your account details and click on Log in.

Click on Hosting in the Products section on the right-hand side and then click on the website you want to access. Scroll down to the FTP Access section, select Enabled Today and click on Update. This will automatically disable FTP at midnight. Other web hosts use similar systems.

Try reinstalling the FP extensions

Reinstalling or turning those on and off again via a hosting control panel, makes it easy. If you were using the frontpage extensions (MSExp's predecessor) it sounds like you should have tried re-installing the extensions, that usually fixes those kinds of issues if you were using those. Just popped in from google, trying to help. Good luck.
