How can I remove Firefox add-ons?

Browser add-ons won't appear in your software list

q-a-logo

Q I downloaded the Noscript for Firefox program, but I am finding it a nuisance. I can’t work out how to uninstall it, though, as it does not appear in the list of programs installed on the computer. Could you tell me how to get rid of it?

A Noscript is not a separate program so it won’t be shown in the list of installed programs in the Add/Remove Programs control panel. Because it’s what’s known as a Firefox add-on, you need to uninstall it using Firefox.

Open Firefox and click the Tools menu, then select Add-ons. A list of add-ons you’ve installed will appear. Find Noscript in the list (you may need to scroll down to find it) and click it, at which point buttons will appear below it.

To uninstall it, click the Uninstall button and follow the prompts. You will need to close down Firefox and restart it for the change to take effect, and once that’s done Noscript will be gone.

The same procedure applies to all other Firefox add-ons. If you don’t want to be quite so drastic you can disable the add-on using the same procedure but selecting Disable instead of Uninstall. Restart Firefox and the add-on will not be working.

If you want it back, you can restore it by going back into the Tools menu, then Add-ons, then selecting it and clicking Restore.
