Make the digital output on a laptop the default device
Q I have a laptop that I recently upgraded from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium.
The laptop is normally plugged into my high-definition television for both audio and video but since the upgrade the sound comes from the speakers built into the laptop, not the television.

A You don’t specify in the question the connection that you have been using to connect the two devices together. The most likely explanation is that Windows 7 has decided to use the analogue sound output as the default device rather than the digital output used with a television.
Right-click on the volume control in the Notification Area and left-click on Playback devices. Right-click on the digital output icon and select Set as Default Device. The change will take place immediately but you may need to restart any software using the audio outputs.
