It can be worth backing up your blog before carrying out any upgrades
Q I have read that there is an important security update for
the
Wordpress
blogging
software. Do I need to upgrade my blog
www.anopensource.wordpress.com,
if so how can I do this?

A You were right to include the address of the blog because this answers your questions for us. Your blog is hosted on the Wordpress website and they will take care of all the upgrades and security updates. Blogs that are hosted on a personal web-hosting account will need to be upgraded.
You can find instructions for upgrading the blogging software here. Like Wordpress we strongly recommend making a backup of your blog before making any big changes such as upgrading to the latest software.
An important point to note with websites such as Wordpress, Typepad, Drupal and Joomla to name but a few, is that the database will not be backed up if you simply copy the files from the web host onto your computer. Read the instructions here for more information.
