Television on a mobile phone is about to arrive
This summer Britain will become the first country in Europe to have a fully-fledged mobile television network, broadcasting a ton of TV channels direct to the palm of your hand.
No matter where you are - on the train, in the queue at the bank or even in the bath - you will be able to watch sport, soaps, news and films from your mobile. It could be the biggest revolution in broadcasting since John Logie Baird displayed his first televised silhouettes over 80 years ago.
That's the hype, but in reality, there are plenty of hurdles. Broadcasters will need to find a new way of broadcasting, new handsets and possibly even a new style of television programme.
You can read the full feature in issue 215 of Computeractive, but here are the links mentioned in the feature.
Services look set to rely on DVB-H, a broadcast technology that looks set to eclipse media download services over 3G. Operators already involved in trials of TV to mobile include O2 and BT.
The trials have indicated a greater interest in programs broadcast continouslt to mobiles so that people can tune in or out as desired, rather than users having to download specific content.
Many in the M25 trail said they might be willing to pay £5 to £8 a month for such a service.
