Adjust the audio settings in Windows XP
Q While trying to turn off annoying sounds in Windows XP
such as the jingles on start up and shut down I have turned off all sound in
Windows and cannot remember how to switch it back on.

A Click on the Start Button and then Control Panel. Click on Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices and then Adjust the system volume.
If you have the Classic Control Panel view, double-click on Sounds and Audio Devices and then click on the Volume tab. Click on the Mute option to remove the tick and bring back all the sounds in Windows.
Click on the Sounds tab to see different sound alerts in Windows. Left-click on a Windows event in the Programs event section and select (None) in the Sounds dropdown menu to remove it. To disable all of these sounds, select No Sounds from the Sound scheme dropdown menu. Click on OK to save the changes.
