Use Adobe Reader to convert PDF images to JPEG
Q I use Windows XP. I have recently received PDF images by email, some text, some pictures, which I want to use in Microsoft Word or Publisher.
However, I cannot edit the images. Is there a way to convert them to JPEG format?

A This is possible in Adobe Reader but exactly what you can extract from a PDF file depends on how it was created in the first place.
Open the PDF file in Adobe Reader, click on the Tools menu, Select & Zoom and then Select Tool. Left-click on the image so that it is highlighted. Right-click on the image and left-click on Copy Image. Start up an image editor and press Ctrl and V to paste the image.
This tool can also select text. Click and drag over the text, press Ctrl and C to copy it into the clipboard and then paste it into a word processor.
The formatting might not be exactly as in the PDF file. Click on the Edit menu and Select All to highlight all the text in the document. If there are lots of images, software such as Some PDF Images Extract can extract all the images at once.

SW - Convert PDF to image
There is an inexpensive software product available to do this: PDF Studio by Qoppa Software is free to download, inexpensive to own, and because it's written in Java, it runs on all platforms. With Studio, one simply opens the PDF file, and then you use a menu option to export as JPEG (or GIF or TIFF or PNG). PDF Studio also lets you import an image and export it as a PDF file. Powerful desktop tool for a very reasonable price. To try it, go to www.qoppa.com/pdfstudio/
