Upload your photos as you take them

Eye-Fi is an interesting family of products. It’s a standard SD memory card – actually it’s an SDHC card because it has a larger-than-normal 4GB capacity.
But in addition to storing photos, you can use it with a digital camera to automatically upload your photos to the web. That’s because the card includes a tiny wi-fi radio – you wouldn’t think it to look at it, because it’s exactly the same size as a standard SD card.
The one we have here is called the 4GB Share Video, and as the name suggests, in addition to putting your photos online, it can also be used to put video online.
Once you’ve configured it by plugging it into a computer and running the supplied software, the card automatically uploads your photos when it comes within range of a set wireless network. If you’ve set it up with your home network, that means it can automatically copy your pictures across to a computer, or to a service such as Flickr.
There are other versions available, such as the Pro, which includes what’s called a Geotagging facility – it can identify your location based on nearby wi-fi networks and tag your photos accordingly, so you can see not only when you took a picture, but where.
