Change a video's orientation from landscape to portrait
Q I run Windows XP with the latest version of Windows Media Player. Every time I am sent a video clip from my daughter’s mobile phone, the video is sideways and I cannot find a way to rotate it in Windows Media Player.

A Although most phones can detect when a photo is being taken in the portrait orientation rather than landscape and automatically rotate it, videos don’t seem to have caught up in this area. The only solution is to edit the video to rotate it to the correct way round.
Windows XP comes with Windows Movie Maker that can do this. Click on the Start button, All Programs and then Windows Movie Maker.
Click on ‘Import video’ in the left-hand column. Find the video that has been sent to you and double-click on it. Drag and drop it into the timeline at the bottom. Click on ‘View video effects’ in the left-hand column. Scroll down to the rotate effects and drag and drop the correct one onto the video. Finally, click on Save to my computer in the Finish Movie section.
