Use superscript to create unusual characters

Putting a hyphen in the right place in Word can by trying, but we have the solution

Q How do I move the hyphen to the top of a letter? -a and _a are not acceptable.

A The simplest solution is to type a normal hyphen and then format it as superscript.

Select the hyphen in Word, click on the Format toolbar and then Font. Click in the box to select Superscript and then click on OK.
