Give numbered lists in Word some extra information
I often need to number items within a numbered list; this is called an outline numbered list in Word.
Before you type the first item in the list, click on the numbering icon in the toolbar to start a numbered paragraph on that line. Press Enter to start a new line with a new number. To create a sub list, left-click on the Increase Indent button on the Formatting toolbar.
Type the next list as you would normally with Enter creating a new number. To return to the previous level, click on the Decrease Indent icon. All of these changes happen as you click on the icons.
There are several different styles available for these outline lists ready to use in Word. With the cursor in the list, click on the Format menu and then on Bullets and Numbering. Click on the Outline Numbered tab to see the options.
