Netbooks – or mini-notebook computers – tend to be much of a muchness. They all use the same processors and have the same amount of memory, and they all perform in roughly the same way.
The Samsung N510, though, has a clever trick up its sleeve. It uses the Nvidia Ion graphics chipset. That means that, in theory, it’s better at dealing with moving video than most similar computers.
We tried putting several high definition video clips through – while, as expected, it struggled with the highest resolution 1080p videos, it was able to play the 720p clips smoothly and with no problems at all. It even comes with an HDMI port so you can connect it to a projector or a flat-panel TV.
The computer comes with a decent battery – for the full test results you can read our review by clicking here – but its battery life was of course lower when playing video than when doing, say, office tasks.
That said, the N510’s abilities when it come to video playback make it very impressive.
