Change the boot menu

Switch between Windows XP and Vista

Sometimes a menu will appear when you switch on your computer asking which version of Windows you would like to use. This normally appears if you have both Vista and XP on the same computer.

To adjust this menu in XP, left-click on the Start button and then on Control Panel. Click on Performance and Maintenance, and then System. Click on the Advanced tab and then on the Settings button in the section Startup and Recovery.

The top dropdown menu can be used to choose which version of Windows will start if no other option is chosen.

More useful are the two options below that select how long the main menu will appear for and how long the recovery menu appears if there is a problem with Windows.

Thirty seconds is a long time, so change both settings to something shorter and click OK.
