Plantronics Audio 920 Bluetooth Headset

Listen to music and make mobile calls with one Bluetooth headset

The Plantronics Audio 920 is a Bluetooth Headset that is easy to use with both a mobile phone and a computer. It is supplied with it's own bluetooth dongle and a cable for charging.

The battery should be good for eight hours of talk time and 120 hours of standby time so running out of power should be a rare problem. The headset is easy to use with a single button that is used to turn it on and off. The volume can also be adjusted by rocking the button up and down.

A light on the front of the headset flashes blue every so often to show that it is on. The light also shows how much battery life is remaining when the headset is switched on by flashing three times for full, twice for half and once for low.

The power cable plugs into a spare USB socket on a computer. This is a good idea because it avoids the need to carry a power adapter around.

The Audio 920 can be adjusted for either ear. The rubber ear piece does go into the ear slightly helping to cut out ambient noise but without being uncomfortable.

Pairing Bluetooth devices can be difficult in Windows, so the headset and dongle are paired before they leave the factory. It is seen as an ordinary audio device in Windows so it can be used with Skype, another voice messenger program or even to listen to music.

Unfortunately, although the quality of the audio is fine for making phone calls, it isn't really up for listening to music. It's not entirely a problem with the headset but with the amount of information that can be transferred over Bluetooth. Making up for this is the fact that the headset can be paired to both a computer and a mobile phone at the same time, so there is no need to swap between headsets to take calls.

The Plantronics Audio 920 costs £45, which we think is a fair price given its versatility.
