Prevent Internet Explorer from deleting website cookies
Q Since upgrading to Internet Explorer 8, I have been unable to change from the default (London) weather to my local forecast on the uk.msn.com home page.
I can change the details using the tool on the page but as soon as I navigate away from the home page and go back it reverts to the London setting.
I re-installed Internet Explorer 7 only to find the problem there too. I
contacted
Microsoft
Help and, to their credit, they did spend quite some time attempting to
correct the problem but to no avail. I have Windows Vista Home Premium running
on the computer.

A This sounds like a problem with cookies, which are the small files used by websites to track settings we make on websites and what we do online.
Every time you use the shopping basket function on a website you are using a cookie, and the same applies if you tick a box on a website to make it remember your password or to keep you logged in.
In this case the MSN web page uses a cookie to remember your location, for the purpose of telling you the weather there.
If you are using a tool that clears the cookies from your web browser, you will find that this location information gets lost every time that happens.
For instance, in Internet Explorer 7 and 8 using the privacy options to delete your browsing cache and cookies will cause this problem, as will other software such as any internet cleaner and some spyware cleaners.
The exact process will depend on which program you are using so check your computer for any software that is automatically cleaning it of cookies, and adj ust the settings to either prevent it from deleting the MSN cookies, or stop it running altogether.
