Which version of Windows 7 can you upgrade to from Windows Vista Ultimate? We explain
Q I would like to upgrade my computer to the Windows 7 operating system. However, I have heard that since I have Windows Vista Ultimate installed, the only version of Windows 7 I can upgrade to is Windows 7 Ultimate edition, which is the most expensive. Is this really true?
I really don’t need the extras that come with Windows 7 Ultimate and would
rather buy one of the cheaper versions.

A You will be pleased to hear that it is possible to upgrade a computer with Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Home Premium. The downside is that you cannot do so using the Upgrade wizard. Instead, you will have to perform a clean installation of Windows 7 and reinstall all your programs from scratch.
Don’t forget to make a backup of all the documents and emails on the computer first. You can download a full list of all the upgrades supported by Microsoft.
