Get hold of the popular online music player
To enjoy Spotify on an Ubuntu PC, first install the Wine software. Left-click on the Applications menu and then Add/Remove. Select All available applications in the Show menu and type wine in the box to the right.
Click in the box for Wine Microsoft Windows Compatibility Layer so that a tick appears. Click on the Apply Changes button and on Apply. Enter your password, click Close and quit Add/Remove Applications when it has finished. Go to Spotify and follow the instructions to sign up. Click on the Download link and Download now. Right-click on the file and then left-click on Open with Wine Application Loader.
Follow the installation

using the default options. Spotify should start automatically and ask for your
login details. Click on the Edit menu and then Preferences. Scroll down to the
Sound section and click in the box labelled Enable hardware acceleration so that
the tick disappears. Click on Apply.

Winamp lite works well too
Hi Colin, Thanks for this great article. I installed the latest version Winamp on Wine. It's working very well on Ubuntu. As I am not very proficient with Ubuntu yet, so I'm not sure if it could be done directly from Wine. I say this because I used PlayOnLinux to install it in Wine.

Winamp linux
Rather than running Winamp on Wine, why not use Linux Audacious, a Winamp lookalike and uses winamp filters too?
