Anthony Dhanendran reviews the latest pocket camcorder from Flip Video

When we looked at the Flip Mino HD recently we were impressed with its small size and ease of use, but not so much with its video quality.
The new Ultra HD from the same company is slightly odd, in that it’s considerably chunkier than the Mino, and although its screen and processor have been upgraded, it’s actually £10 cheaper than the older model.
The resolution, a high definition 1280 x 720 pixels, is the same as that of the Mino, and in fact, video from one was pretty much indistinguishable from the other.
The Ultra’s better processor does allow it to cope better with low-light and with the transition from light to dark, something that’s been a problem with this kind of camera.
That means that if you go from inside a house into a sunny garden, the camera is now much quicker to respond.
Overall, though, the quality of footage from the Ultra HD didn’t do much to impress us.
It is easier to use, though, with physical buttons rather than the touch-sensitive ones on the Mino, and the larger screen makes a big difference.
