Secret 2: It’s easy to get started

Another popular misconception is that file sharing is confusing and difficult to start using. This stems largely from the fact that you cannot simply download files from file-sharing services using a web browser: instead, you will need to install a program in order to manage the download.

As well as having various programs on offer, there are various file-sharing systems that are available to use.

Admittedly this can seem offputting at first but, assuming you want to download files legally and safely, there’s only one service that you should worry about and that’s Bittorent. And, as far as we are concerned, there is only one file-sharing application you will need to use Bittorrent: uTorrent.

Owned and developed by Bittorrent, uTorrent is a simple application for managing downloads. It takes up few system resources and its minimum requirements are low – you could even run it on an old Windows 95 PC. It also does a lot of the hard work for you during its setup procedure, making it easy to get started.

Visit the uTorrent website to download the small installation file and double-click it to start the installation wizard. Follow the on-screen instructions. You will notice that uTorrent will automatically configure settings for the Windows Firewall if necessary.

Once installed, uTorrent will run a couple of simple bandwidth and network tests on your system to make sure your router is configured properly and gauge upload and download speed limits. Once these tests have completed, you are ready to start file sharing.

P2P Only?

There are many ways to share a file with the use of PC. One of my favorite ways is the use of free online storage, i.e. Windows Live SkyDrive. Using Local Area Network can enable me to share files in a limited area as well.
