Q After a failed attempt to install Vista Service Pack 1 and subsequent removal, I am reluctant to try again. The computer is now prompting me to install and I don’t know if it is safe to do so.
Bill Smith

A We haven’t heard of many problems with Vista Service Pack 1, so we think that it is a good idea to install it to get the included security updates. The best way to install Service Pack 1 is to use Automatic Updates, which is a far smaller download. Automatic Updates will also ensure that there are no known problem drivers installed on the computer. When the reminder next appears, follow the instructions to install Service Pack 1. If you are still unsure, read the release notes for Service Pack 1.
