Choose the right download file for Gparted Live CD ISO
Q I tried to download the
Gparted
Live CD ISO as recommended in the feature
in issue 265, but wasn’t sure which file to choose from the page. It wasn’t
clear if any included a copy of Linux either. When I did try to download
one, nothing happened. I use Internet Explorer.

A The download pages on
Sourceforge
(the site that holds the files) are not
always that clear, especially as they include all previous versions of the
software. The link in the magazine goes to the page with the version of
Gparted that includes a copy of Linux for making changes that are not
possible when Windows is running. The up-to-date file at the time of
writing is gparted-livecd-0.3.4-11.iso.
If the download dialogue window does not appear, this probably means that
Internet Explorer has blocked the download as a security measure. This is
no reflection on Sourceforge; it is intended to prevent people from
installing software without thinking about it first. At the top of the web
page you’ll see a yellow bar with the text ‘To help protect your security,
Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading files to your
computer. Click here for options…’. Left-click anywhere on this bar and
then select Download file.
