Adjust the audio buffer for music-making software
Q I have just installed Magix Music Maker 16 Premium Edition to use with my Midi keyboard.
Unfortunately there is an annoying delay between when I press a key and hear the sound from the software.
It’s small but enough to make it hard to play along with what has already
been recorded.

A This is a common problem with all music-making software. The delay is caused by the computer creating the sound from the key press.
Click on the File menu, Settings and then Program Settings. Click on the Audio/Midi tab and look for the Multitrack audio buffer setting at the bottom left of the screen in the Audio Buffer Section.
Click on the ‘-’ button to reduce the buffer from 8192 to 4096. This will make the computer respond much faster although there may be a slight worsening of audio quality. It is quite acceptable to increase this setting again after recording music from the keyboard.
