Use a custom installation of Office 2003 to keep your old email software
When I upgraded from Office 2003 Home and Student Edition to Office 2010 Home and Student I discovered I had lost Outlook, which I had been using for email.
As I still had the installation disc for Office 2003 I found I was able to install Outlook 2003 without affecting the more recent version. You will need the Office installation key as well.
Put the Office 2003 disc into your computer and follow the instructions for a new installation. Select ‘Custom’ when asked for what type of installation it should do. Untick all programs except for Outlook and continue installation.
This leaves me with the best of both worlds, the most recent version of Word, Excel and Powerpoint without losing Outlook 2003.

Mail 2011
Why bother? This is all rather bemusing, just download and install the excellent and FREE Windows live Essentials! Windows live mail 2011 outclasses Outlook 2003 in many reasons for the home user! Less resource hogging, more user friendly GUI, runs smoothly and it just works! Yes yes you don't get some odd handy tools in Outlook but this is simply a dinosaur in today's modern emailing world!
