Big files can be difficult to send over email. We explain how to solve this
When I tried to send my friends an email that included some photos, it would not send because it was too big – 7.6MB to be precise.
First I tried saving the file as a Word 97-2003 document. While that roughly halved the document size, it was still too big.
The solution was to export the letter as a PDF file, which also has the advantage of not requiring Word to read. Click on the File button at the top left, Save & Send, and then create a PDF/XPS Document.
XPS is a Microsoft alternative to PDF. Click on the Create PDF/XPS button that appears in the right column. Select a folder to save the file in and give it a name. There are two options in the Optimize section. The Standard mode should reduce the file sufficiently, otherwise select Minimum size.
Then click on the Publish button to save the PDF file.
