A conflict between AVG and Zonealarm software causes an error message to pop up on computers running Windows XP, but there are a couple of things you can do
Q I have a laptop and netbook running Windows XP.
On both computers I have recently been getting the following error message: 'AVGCSRVX.exe - Unable to Locate Component. This Application has failed to start because MSVC80.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.'
I close this message once it returns. I close it again and the computer seems to function normally.
AVG is my anti-virus application and, from the filename flagged in the error message, I assume that a downloaded update may have brought about this problem.
How can I resolve it?
Michael F Harris
A This error message has been analysed by AVG’s developers and traced to a conflict with the Zonealarm Toolbar – a program from a different company. The two firms are in discussion to find ways to resolve the problem.
In the meantime, AVG has published some temporary solutions.
The first is to simply continue as you are and ignore these error messages, as they do not affect AVG’s ability to protect your PC against viruses.
Alternatively, disable or uninstall Zonealarm Toolbar and wait for a fix.
