Why do I keep getting a script error when printing from the internet?

A Lexmark printer won't print emails or web pages from a Windows 7 laptop

Sometimes re-registering a certain Windows DLL file fixes the problem

Q My Lexmark X4875 printer works without complaint when connected to my Windows XP computer. However, when attached to a Windows 7 laptop it will print only documents.

If I attempt to print, say, an email or a web page then I am presented with this cryptic error message: ‘Script error, line 291, char 1. Error: interface not registered, code 0, URL res://ieframe.dll/preview.js. Do you want to continue using scripts Yes/No ?'.

Neither option works. I have re-installed the printer's driver and tried three different browsers, with no success. Do you have any ideas?

A There are lots of possibilities here and, from your email, we know that you have tried quite a few of them. Some people who have experienced this error have found that re-registering a certain Windows DLL file fixes the problem, so we suggest trying the same.

Click Start, type cmd into the search box and press Enter. In the command-line window that appears, type regsvr32 ole32.dll and press Enter.

Close the command-line window (by clicking the red cross at the top right), restart Windows and try printing now.

If that hasn't worked, then the support area of Microsoft's website has a long page explaining other possible fixes for script errors like this.
