Windows XP displayed MP3 folders so the full album cover could be viewed as a thumbnail. Windows 7 has changed this, but it's fiddly to get a different view
Q I have a huge music collection in MP3 format that has taken me years to collect. I used to use Windows XP as my operating system and the way XP displayed folders allowed me to view the full album covers, as a thumbnail on the folder icon.
I have now moved to Windows 7. However, this has changed all the folders to a new style that is rather different – a part of the album cover image slants out from a folder, rather than the whole thing appearing flat, as in XP. I don't find this new style very clear.
Is there any way to change the Windows 7 folders back to how they used to be in XP? I don't want to have to do this manually, as I have thousands of albums.

A In short, Windows Vista dispensed with the old-style Windows XP folder view - and Microsoft didn't see fit to herald its return in Windows 7.
Various industrious types have found workarounds specifically for the display of album covers in the old ‘flat' style, but we're afraid much manual effort is required: to date, no-one has come up with an automated tool to get the job done.
You'll find the labour-intensive description of how someone has achieved it at Media Monkey's forum.
