Use the free Gimp Image editor to make your colours look better
I discovered a quick way to improve my photos with minimum effort by adjusting the levels using The Gimp image editor. This makes colours more vibrant and can reveal details that were previously invisible.
Load the image in Gimp, click on the Colors menu and then on Levels. The window that appears has a graph that represents colours in the image with dark colours on the left and light on the right. The arrows on the left and right set the absolute black and white points and the middle arrow makes the whole image lighter or darker.
There are two ways to adjust the levels. You can move the arrows or, if there are any areas that are definitely white or black, set them by clicking on the relevant eye dropper icon and then on the white or black area. Click on the Reset button to undo changes or click the OK to apply them.
You can find more information about adjusting your colour levels here.
