We explain how to stop Word replacing the suffix in '1st', '4th' and so on, with superscript text each time you type one of these figures
Q I use Word 2010. When I type 1st or 4th and so on, the suffix appears in superscript. I do not want this, so each time I have to format the font to remove the tick from the superscript box.
How can I make this apply to all Word documents? In the Fonts dialogue box (Ctrl and D) none of the effects are ticked, yet I still get superscript for ordinal numbers.
I think I have to edit the Normal template, but where is it?

A It is not necessary to edit the Normal template to achieve what you want.
First, click the down-pointing arrow near the top left of Word 2010’s Quick Access Toolbar and choose More Commands.
On the Word Options dialogue box, click Proofing in the left-hand pane and click the AutoCorrect Options button on the right.
Click the AutoFormat As You Type tab on the AutoCorrect dialogue box and then click to remove the tick from the box labelled ‘Ordinals 1st with superscript’. Click OK, then OK again and your problem is solved.
