You might not immediately associate computers with the kitchen, but the web can be surprisingly useful when it comes to food.

From websites that can suggest the perfect wine to accompany your dinner and great recipes to cook to tips on ordering sushi in a Japanese restaurant; whatever you’re hungry for, you will find it online.

The only tricky thing, in fact, is finding the best advice and information available. So, in this issue, we will list the 10 best websites for food fans.

Whether you want recipe ideas, video guides or even to learn new cooking techniques, you should find the ideal information in one of these.

BBC Food

The BBC’s food website brings together content from all the BBC food-related TV programmes including Masterchef, Ready Steady Cook, and Saturday Kitchen.

The recipe database is searchable by programme, chef or by ingredient, while the advanced search narrows things down further: you can specify which course you want, whether you have any special dietary requirements or whether you are after a particular kind of cuisine.

The recipes themselves are clearly laid out and easy to follow, and in most cases there’s an iPlayer link to view the episode the recipe came from.

For more difficult techniques – such as how to chiffonade lettuce, or butterfly a leg of lamb – there are short demonstration videos available, along with step-by-step written instructions.

The seasonal recipes section highlights which fruits and vegetables are currently at their best, and every recipe comes with a customisable shopping list that can be printed out to make sure you don’t forget any vital ingredients.
