It's a simple matter of adjusting sliders to keep your sounds at the same level
If you find that one program is always much louder than others, it is possible to adjust the relative volume of different programs in Windows.
Right-click on the volume icon in the Notification Area next to the clock and left-click on Open Volume Mixer.
The window that appears has a slider to control the overall volume of the computer and the one to the right controls System Sounds such as the startup sound. Other sliders are added to the right of these two as programs start making sounds.
Click and drag the slider to adjust the volume or click on the speaker icon beneath the slider to mute the program altogether.
Click on the red cross in the top right-hand corner of the window to close the mixer when you are happy with the changes.
