Long web addresses can be hard to remember or type in. We explain how to easily create a short URL that will take visitors to the same website
Q I need to reduce the length of my website address from http://homepage.ntlworld.com/lionelbaker/dm1/DigicamMet.htm to something more manageable. I remember seeing an article in Computeractive about this, but cannot remember where or when. Can you tell me how to go about this?
Lionel Baker
A We have covered this topic several times in Computeractive. Most recently, it was explored in the Back to Basics section on shortening web addresses of issue 323.
To shorten a website address, or URL, just paste your website’s address into one of the URL-shortening services that exist online, click a button and a shortened version will be created. In most cases, you will be able to customise the shortened URL in any way you want. We recommend the popular URL-shortening service Bitly.
