If you want to delete everything from your computer, you can use these discs
Q I have just bought an HP Pavilion laptop from a friend at work. It’s about two years old and runs Windows Vista.
My friend gave me some DVDs he made when the PC was new. He said these should allow me to re-install everything as though the PC is new.
However, I’m not sure how to do this. Do I just put in the first disc and follow the instructions or do I have to wipe everything off the PC first? If so, how do I it?

A You didn’t supply enough information about the discs for us to provide specific instructions.
However, because of the make and model of the computer, we are reasonably confident the discs created by your friend are ‘recovery’ discs that, in essence, will automate the whole process.
To restore the computer to its factory condition all you need to do is insert the first disc, restart the PC and follow the displayed instructions.
Do note, though, that by allowing the recovery discs to do their business, everything – including all personal files and folders – are likely to be erased from the hard disk. However, as that is precisely what you want to achieve, go right ahead.
