Courier New is often used as a default font but it can be difficult to read. Greg Bamber has found Inconsolata much easier to see and describes how to load it
Some text-entry boxes in Firefox use a fixed-space font – Courier New. It’s not the easiest font to read, so I have changed Firefox to use Inconsolata instead. You can get the Inconsolata font by clicking here and using the Download button.
Click on the Firefox button and then Options. Click on Content, then the Advanced button in the Fonts & Colours section. Click the Monospace menu and select the alternative font, in this case Inconsolata.
Click OK in both windows to make the change. This font will now be used in text boxes that previously used Courier New.

Attractive font, but little difference between l and I.
I've just installed this font, and it looks good in the main. I have just one criticism: The lower-case L in this font looks almost identical to the upper-case I! (Although strangely, those two letters are appearing in the Courier font in this particular text box, when all the other characters appear to be using the new font!)
