We list 10 top tips you may not know about to optimise the use of your browser
1. To change fonts in Firefox 4, click the Firefox button then choose Options followed by Content. Now click Advanced, open the Monospace menu and choose another font.
2. If Internet Explorer 9 regularly displays ‘not responding’ errors, click Start, type internet options and press Enter. Click Advanced and tick ‘Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering’.
3. Use letter shortcuts then a space to search from Opera’s address bar – typing g Computeractive will do a Google search for Computeractive.
4. To clear browsing history in Chrome, click the spanner icon, choose History then click Edit items and finally ‘Clear all browsing data’.
5. To prevent websites resizing windows in Firefox 3.6, open the Tools menu, choose Options and click on the Content tab. Now click the Advanced tab and remove the tick from ‘Move or resize existing windows’.
6. To have Internet Explorer (7 and above) launch and open multiple home pages, open the pages in separate tabs then choose Internet Options from the Tools menu and click on ‘Use current’.
7. To customise Firefox’s search engine, just click the down-pointing arrow next to the search box and choose a different option.
8. To delete old passwords from Firefox, click Tools, choose Options, then Security tab and click the Saved Passwords button.
9. To manage the Firefox’s display of Javascript websites, open the Tools menu, choose Options, click the Content tab. Click the top Advanced button and add or remove ticks as desired.
10. In most browsers, clicking the mouse’s scroll wheel will force links to open in a new tab.
