Make Google's two-step password process work with Thunderbird

The passwords process only works if you can enter both passwords.

This is a problem using software such as Thunderbird for your email or built-in email software. The solution is to create a special password for these.

Return to the Account Settings page and click on Edit in Using 2-step verification. Enter your password again.

Click on the Manage application-specific passwords link. Enter a name for the password such as ‘iPad email’ and click on Generate password.

The new password is displayed on screen. Enter this on your device rather than your normal password.

This is the only time the password is displayed so make sure you have the device ready to hand. Click on Done.

Should you ever wish to block that device, click on the Revoke link.
