Looking to replace an Nvidia card

As Alan's Nvidia 8500GT card no longer works, he is looking for an alternative

Q  I’m not a gamer but I like to do some video editing, which my 42-month-old Nvidia 8500GT coped with.

This has now snuffed it, having first shed its fan, so I want to replace it – but not necessarily upgrade. (For a start, I don’t know what my PC’s power-supply unit can cope with.) I’m not bothered about the TV card element any more, but obviously want DVI.

The 8500 isn’t manufactured any more, and that makes me anxious about the physical fit onto the motherboard. I assume similar Nvidia cards will replace the one that I have?

A  Look up Nvidia on Wikipedia. The 200 series has improved video-rendering and playback assistance.
